Game – 29 July 2013 (Pittsburgh)

St. Louis Cardinals 2, Pittsburgh Pirates 9
Venue: PNC Park
League: National
Attendance: 32,084
Pedro Alvarez topped off a 4-run first inning by hitting his 27th homerun. The Pirates left the bases loaded, in what we considered an ominous sign at that point, in the second inning but by that point pitcher Jake Westbrook had already thrown 54 pitches by the end of the inning. Meanwhile Liriano was perfect through three innings, retiring the first ten batters, before giving up back-to-back hits, just under the gloves of Pirate fielders. A 5-run bottom of the seventh finished off the Cardinals, topped with a clutch RBI double by Clint Barmes.
